Bled Attractions
The north-west, Alpine part of Slovenia is represented by the most developed region Upper Carniola. The symbol of the Upper Carniola is certainly Lake Bled. Surrounded by steep hills it creates an idyllic mountain spot. In summer it is a place to swim and lie in the sun, and in winter a place to relax after tiring skiing. All year long you can choose from a variety of sport activities, and all those who would like to get your special wish come true can go to the island and ring the bell of wishes in the church!
Above the lake rises the three-peaked Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia. We are very proud of it, and an unwritten rule says that every "true" Slovene has to climb Triglav at least once in his life.
Lake Bled was formed after the slump of the Bohinj glacier. It is up to 2120 m long and up to 1380 m wide, with it’s maximum depth being 30.6 m and tectonic in origin. After the last Ice Age, the Bohinj glacier deepened the natural tectonic hollow and gave into its present form. The basin was filled with water when the ice melted. The lake has no large natural tributaries; it is fed only by a few springs.
