Forget everything you know about via ferrata. This one is in a gorge.
Most via ferratas take you up an exposed cliff face. Hvadnik takes you up a wild, narrow canyon - climbing alongside waterfalls, crossing the stream on suspended wire bridges, and ascending vertical rock walls with the river roaring below you.
It's the most dynamic, varied, and photogenic via ferrata in the Bled area, and most travelers have never heard of it.
The setting
Hvadnik gorge sits inside the village of Gozd Martuljek, at the foot of the Martuljek mountain range — one of the most dramatic skylines in the Julian Alps, dominated by the spiky peak of Špik. The route follows the Hvadnik stream up through a steep limestone canyon for about 500 meters, gaining 250 meters of elevation.
The experience
We pick you up in Bled and drive 35 minutes to Gozd Martuljek. After a safety briefing and gear check, a short forest path leads you to the start of the route. From there, the climb is anything but predictable.
You'll scale vertical walls, navigate boulders, cross the stream multiple times on two- and three-wire suspension bridges, and pass right next to small waterfalls.
Some sections are damp and atmospheric, others fully exposed with the canyon dropping below you. Every few minutes, the route changes character.
You're always clipped to a steel safety cable, and your certified mountain guide stays close to give technique tips and capture photos along the way.
The climbing is rated B/C — moderate — meaning it's a real challenge that rewards effort, but no prior experience is required as long as you have decent fitness and aren't afraid of heights.
After roughly 2 hours of climbing, you reach a panoramic bench at the top of the gorge with sweeping views over the Martuljek range and across to the highest summits of the Julian Alps. We rest here, take photos, and let the climb sink in.
The descent follows a gentle forest path back to the village, no climbing required. Total time on the tour is about 4 hours from pickup to drop-off.

Important Information
- You should be comfortable hiking for 4 hours and willing to commit to a moderate climbing route. Once you start, the easiest way out is up.
You'll need closed-toe shoes with good grip. We recommend long pants or leggings to protect your legs from rock and brush.

You may get a little wet from spray near the waterfalls — this is part of the experience. After heavy rain, water levels can rise and we may reschedule for safety. You'll get a full refund or free rebooking in that case. Please note that we offer one daily transfer from Bled back to Ljubljana, usually departing between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Depending on the tour’s finishing time, you may need to wait a few hours in Bled. This gives you a great opportunity to explore the town and visit Lake Bled, Slovenia’s most famous attraction, before returning to Ljubljana.
