Description

Most visitors to Bled remain at lake level; this tour takes you approximately 1,500 meters higher. You’ll be picked up from your hotel and driven 30 minutes to the Pokljuka Plateau, the starting point for your hike into Triglav National Park.

The hike involves a steady three-hour ascent through spruce forests and alpine pastures to the summit of Debela Peč, a peak rarely reached by day-trippers. The climb totals about 5–6 hours round trip with roughly 600 meters of elevation gain.

From the summit, you can see the limestone walls of the Julian Alps to the north, the Karavanke ridge along the Austrian border to the east, Lake Bled to the south, and the pyramid-shaped Mt. Triglav directly ahead.

On the descent, the group stops at a working mountain hut where a local family serves traditional Slovenian mountain food including hearty soups, homemade sausage, štruklji, and apple strudel.

The hike is accessible for families with children aged 8 and older who can walk for a full day on uneven terrain.

The tour is operated by Bled’s local mountain guide team, a Certificate of Excellence recipient since 2016.

Important Information

• Proper hiking gear is essential: sturdy hiking boots (no sneakers), weather-appropriate layered clothing, a backpack, water, and sun protection.
• Mountain weather can change rapidly; bring a light waterproof jacket even if the forecast is sunny.
• Gear rental is available at Altitude Activities’ shop in Bled, offering boots, jackets, backpacks, and trekking poles. Inform the operator when booking to have gear ready on tour day.
